“Anything can happen in life, especially nothing.”― Michel Houellebecq, Platform
I am interested in the way public spaces influence our quotidian experience. The images in Dead Ends (2009-14) underscore the rich amalgamation of cultural signs that make up the visual infrastructure of the streets in Mexico City. They are my attempt to understand the city where I grew up and where I have returned to live for different lengths of time over the years. I am particularly drawn towards spaces that offer numerous possibilities of interpretation due to their apparent neutrality. The series does not attempt to propose a unitary look at this complex metropolis but is composed of notations in passing – following the great Nathan Lyons – factual and disperse like reality itself.
