We usually perform two actions when looking through a window: we delve into ourselves while looking out at the world. The pictures in Some Windows Later (2002-ongoing) document the cities where I have lived, creating a fragmented narrative that utilizes the window – or its respective view – as a leitmotif to interrogate my relationship with those places. The series, which has developed over time, suggests how the intricate construction of our public and private lives is influenced by the urban landscape that surrounds us. The title was inspired by a verse in Paul Celan’s poem Crystal (1949).
